A New Year presents an opportunity to think about how you have grown over the past 12 months. January should be a time of reflection and appreciation for the challenges that have made you stronger and the mindset you can take into the next 12 months to bring more positive energy into your life.
One of the best ways to do this is by setting intentions instead of resolutions for 2018.
Intentions guide the way you want to feel, be and the experiences you want to have. They are about welcoming energy and change naturally rather than forcing change to happen, an approach that often leads to disappointment. The Alchemist shares this in the best possible way - “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”.
As the saying goes, positive energy flows where intention goes, so set some time aside in January to follow our tips below and set intentions that will bring happiness and energy into your life over the next 12 months.
- First, take a little time to connect and understand the elements of your life that bring you the most joy, wellbeing, health and satisfaction. Connect with your purpose and your passion and set the intention to let them drive you into the year ahead. Write your purpose and the things you most appreciate and want to enjoy out of life on a piece of paper and keep it handy throughout the year.
- Give up the things that aren’t serving you to create space for the things that inspire you. Time is precious so don’t waste it on people and parts of your life that aren’t satisfying your passions and goals.
- What do you want to get out of 2018? Rather than setting goals such as “I want to lose weight”, which largely comes out of a dissatisfaction of one’s self, say “I want to have a healthy relationship with my weight based on self love and acceptance”. Simply approaching this goal in a new way removes pressure and creates an environment where positive change feels and is natural.
